During the year, important progress was made in line with our strategy, mainly by reducing the proportion of new construction and instead focusing on developing our existing stock. We have also established four new strategic goals to strengthen our sustainable business.

We involve our customers in the sustainability work to jointly create sustainable and attractive campuses that stand the test of time. In 2023, we have supplemented our sustainability dimensions to achieve more sustainable campuses and sustainable operations. The four dimensions are ecological, social, economic and cultural sustainability.

We take climate responsibility seriously and are transparent all the way. In our climate budget, you can follow our path towards climate neutrality in 2035. Collaboration with our customers is central and we actively work with cooperation agreements with educational institutions around the country.

Stability in troubled times

The Swedish real estate market is navigating through challenging times with higher interest rates, economic downturn, energy crisis and global uncertainty. This is also noticeable for Akademiska Hus, which reports negative value changes for investment properties of SEK 3.5 billion.

Akademiska Hus has good financial stability with an equity ratio of 48 percent. Our credit rating of AA from S&P Global Ratings has been maintained since 1996 and reflects the state ownership and stable cash flows of the business. This financially strong position allows us to make investments to develop the campus environments around the country.
