If you want to live in the middle of campus, it is difficult to beat the student and researcher housing on Campus Alnarp outside Lund. Here, those who have studied to become foresters and landscape architects have long been able to live in beautiful houses, in the middle of the lush park that Campus Alnarp offers.
"It is a privilege to be able to take care of the qualities that Campus Alnarp offers, in the form of well-built older buildings and green environments. Here, learning can really meet life. We want to strengthen students and researchers with a safe and pleasant environment," says Anna Linné, manager of the student housing in Alnarp.
Overhaul and refurbishment led to less wear and tear
In 2019, Akademiska Hus, in collaboration with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), began a major review and renovation of the 27 student housing buildings scattered on Campus Alnarp.
The stock was divided into three categories, depending on how many people lived in each house and what facilities are shared between the residents. In the houses where many people share common areas, the price will be slightly lower than in the houses where only 1-2 people share areas. In all houses, the residents share a bathroom and kitchen.
One conclusion drawn from the project is that by raising the standard in the older buildings, a greater willingness has also been created from the tenants to take good care of the homes.

Old houses are a challenge to maintain
For many, it is a dream to live in an old house where in many cases you get access to incredible qualities in the form of stucco and beautiful floors. But older buildings can be difficult to manage and often require a lot of care, both from the property owner and the person who lives in the house.
"We have carefully and house by house taken on the renovation of surfaces and technical installations. But it is also important to raise the standard to a consistent level across the entire portfolio in order for it to be manager- and operation-friendly in the future. We are already seeing a response from the residents that they want to take care of their apartments more carefully now. That's sustainability for real," says Anna Linné, property manager at Akademiska Hus.
