Akademiska Hus and Örebro University have collaborated for several years on so-called digital twins. Together with sensors, the technology can be used to measure and visualize how premises are used. Now it's time to take the next step, through the pilot project Campus.AI.
"We have both laser scanned all the premises at Örebro University and set up 4,000 sensors used in the project. There are quickly incalculable amounts of data, already today we refuel 100,000 data points every ten minutes from all buildings and we are far from finished with the roll-out of sensors. And this is where we hope that Campus.AI will give us the right tools to find the right way in the large amounts of data," says Peter Karlsson, Innovation Manager at Akademiska Hus.
Data-driven pattern recognition will find long-term trends
"We will look at insights from the data through so-called data-driven pattern recognition. In this way, we can find interesting information that may be invisible to the user, but that can be useful. Property owners often know roughly how people behave in certain situations, for example that there are a lot of people at the restaurant around lunch. But by analysing a longer period of time, we can find deviations, which can be significant," says Hadi Banaee, developer and AI researcher at Örebro University, and adds:
"We will also invest a lot in data exploration and visualization. So it's not just about finding AI solutions, but also ways to present the results to explain what's happening, and that's where we're using AI models like natural language generation and explainable AI.
Örebro University's campus division is also involved in the project. And the whole point of Campus.AI is to be able to use premises smarter and more sustainably in the future," explains Peter Karlsson.
Collaborative projects
The Örebro-based company Ecoguard, one of the partners in the project, develops systems for connecting, measuring and visualising measured values in buildings.
Campus.AI is funded by the AI project. ALL. It aims to give researchers the opportunity to validate and apply ideas in artificial intelligence by working together with industry and the public sector. Firstly, to help the business and public sectors to accelerate their use of AI. The initiative Campus.AI will run until June this year.
