The new booking switchboard, which is part of Akademiska Hus' digitalisation work, enables increased utilisation and contributes to a more sustainable use of properties. The technology has been developed on site in A Working Lab Universe on Umeå campus and is currently used in the event venue Rotundan.
- The booking exchange has been developed to answer the question of how we enable the sharing of premises and the sharing economy in the real estate sector. We can see that several universities and colleges have similar challenges with shared premises that are used by many and that these have clear peaks, as they are used a lot but only for short periods of the year. By enabling multi-channel booking, we invite more people to book resources in an easier way. In the long run, we hope to be able to use the technology for more premises like a premises network that can meet booking peaks for different activities and promote more shared use," says Peter Karlsson, Innovation Manager at Akademiska Hus.
The technology is planned to be implemented in several premises in Akademiska Hus' property portfolio.
How the Booksmith works
Bookings in one booking system are registered by the PBX and automatically sync the bookings to all other booking systems that are linked to the PBX. Depending on the functionality of the booking system, the system is connected via either the Push API or the Pull API. The bookings are completely anonymous in the external booking systems and only show that a resource is booked for a certain time. When booking, an invoice is automatically created for the customer concerned.
