The two parties have been working actively on sustainability issues for a long time. In 2019, the University of Skövde supported the national Climate Framework for Universities and University Colleges, which clarifies how higher education institutions can and should develop. In 2021, Akademiska Hus adopted its new climate and energy strategy, which shows how the company will achieve climate neutrality by 2035. There are many common denominators in the two parties' goals regarding sustainable development, which means that expanded and coordinated collaboration can provide more sustainable campus development and a greater chance of achieving the set goals.
Joint activities for sustainable development
The sustainability agreement mentions a number of areas where they will jointly contribute with activities for more sustainable development. For example, it is about:
- Increase knowledge about and collaboration on sustainable development.
- Improve the well-being and good health of all those who work in the environments that the University of Skövde rents from Akademiska Hus through safe, accessible and appropriate environments both indoors and outdoors.
- Strengthening biodiversity.
- Work together to reduce climate impact in accordance with the Parties' objectives.
- Jointly strive to reduce energy consumption in both property and business energy.
- Work for smarter use of premises, where access and design of the premises meet the needs of the business.
- Digitalization for sustainable development of physical environments on campus.
- Reduce waste, increase reuse and support the circular economy.
