As one of Sweden's largest land managers, the outdoor environments surrounding the 3.4 million square metre property portfolio are a central part of Akademiska Hus' work. In the development of the campus, the goal is to create a whole that makes the areas an attractive place where students, researchers and visitors thrive and feel good.
The real estate company is now testing a new approach by placing digital activity lockers on a number of campus areas. First out are Frescati and Kräftriket at Stockholm University, Lund University, the University of Gävle and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences' campuses in Ultuna and Alnarp. The lockers are filled with outdoor games and sports equipment, such as kubb, roundnet and superjenga. They are accessed via an app and will have different content over time depending on the type of outdoor activity that is suitable for the season and what is in demand on the specific campus area.
- We work in many different ways to create pleasant and stimulating outdoor environments together with our customers. An important part of this work is to give everyone who is on campus the conditions for activity and movement, which according to research has several positive effects such as improved memory and increased concentration and stress tolerance," says Anna Alsborger, Property Director at Akademiska Hus.
Outdoor environments an important resource
Campuses are often rich in green environments and therefore constitute an important platform for ecological, environmental and social benefits. The outdoor environments are an important resource on campus and can contribute to increased well-being, good health and strengthened conditions for learning and work. The activity cabinets will complement Akademiska Hus' already existing movement initiatives on campuses around the country, including padel courts, outdoor gyms, walking and cycling paths, boules courts and volleyball courts.
