Royal splendor when the New Ångström Laboratory was inaugurated

On 13 May, the New Ångström Laboratory in Uppsala was inaugurated with pomp and circumstance. The person who cut the ribbon was none other than HRH Crown Princess Victoria, who herself has studied at Uppsala University. Hayar Gohary, Project Director at Akademiska Hus, was one of the speakers at the inauguration.

The new Ångström has made it possible for the Department of Information Technology to be co-located with the other departments at Ångström. The purpose of this is for the building to open up for collaboration with the business community and the city, but also for more people at Uppsala University to be able to use the premises and be able to collaborate across departmental boundaries. The project has provided a welcome addition of modern research and learning environments to campus.

The New Ångström Laboratory is Akademiska Hus and Uppsala University's largest joint venture of all time. The project has consisted of several parts and Building 9 was inaugurated as early as September 2020. In December 2021, the university gained access to the brand new Building 10 and on Friday 13 May, it was finally time for a grand inauguration of the entire project.

The project has been marked by successful collaborations between Uppsala University and Akademiska Hus, as well as with the contractor NCC. For example, they won the Håll Nollan work environment award as an acknowledgment of a good and safe work environment. Within the framework of the project, students, teachers and didactics researchers have also been involved in the planning process and have been able to influence the end result of the building.

"The whole is precisely the result of our ability to collaborate. To get what is dreamed and thought to actually be what is built. In this project, we set a common goal early on that has been the basis for what we see here today. Together, we have created world-class modern premises," Hayar Gohary concluded his inaugural speech.

Speeches were also given by Anders Hagfeldt, President, Johan Tysk, Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Anna Ivert, Chairman of the Uppsala Union of Engineering and Science Students, Cecilia Broman, Project Manager at the Construction Division and Business Manager at NCC Henrik Lundin. After the speeches, the ribbon was cut by HRH Crown Princess Victoria. The evening ended with inspirational lectures on the exciting research that is going on in the New Ångström Laboratory and of course dinner for everyone invited.
