At the top of Medicinareberget, the Natrium building is now completed. In total, the project comprises 32,000 m2 of new construction and 2000 m2 of reconstruction. The new building consists of two buildings on seven floors with an intermediate part that houses an atrium and meeting rooms, among other things. The project has created several advanced lab environments such as phytotron, herbarium and microscopy department in combination with flexible general labs that can be adjusted as needed. The building also contains offices and study spaces as well as modern learning environments.
Miljöbyggnad Gold
The building is certified according to the Swedish Green Building Council's Gold level and has several smart energy-efficient solutions such as solar cells on the roof and demand-controlled ventilation and lighting. By choosing a shape of the building that provides less façade space, the conditions have been created for energy-efficient heating. The project has also made careful material choices of both surface layers and building materials and had the ambition to choose locally produced products whenever possible. All in all, there have been good conditions for reducing climate impact.
The building will provide space for approximately 3000 students and 500-600 employees in the departments of Biological and Environmental Sciences, Chemistry and Molecular Biology, Marine Sciences, Earth Sciences, Conservation and the Faculty Office of Natural Sciences. By sitting together, opportunities are created for meetings across departmental boundaries while the premises can be used efficiently.
The inauguration of the building will take place in November, but already in August, staff and students will be welcomed to Natrium.
