During 2022–2023, the forest at Karlstad University has undergone extensive changes. Trees damaged by the spruce bark beetle have been removed, while new trees and shrubs have been planted, and the area has been supplemented with fauna depots, birdhouses and hedgehog nests, among other things. In addition, a new walking trail has been built.
Wednesday 13 September marked the official opening of the forest and the new walking trail. At lunchtime, the university's main entrance was bustling with life. Visitors could take part in quiz walks, guided tours and a competition to name the new forest. The jury is now deliberating on the fine proposals that have been received. We look forward to revealing the new forest's name shortly!
Our forest, our planet
The forest is more than just a beautiful environment; It plays an important role in climate work. It binds air pollution, cools the atmosphere and contributes renewable raw materials that can replace fossil fuels.
A walk in the woods and fields contributes to well-being for both body and soul. It lowers the heart rate and creates a feeling of calm that strengthens concentration.
