Akademiska Hus is investing to adapt two existing buildings in Kräftriket at Brunnsviken on North Djurgården so that Folkuniversitetet will be able to conduct adult education in the area from the autumn term 2025. In total, it is a leasable area of approximately 3,500 m2 that will undergo a general modernization and upgrade. Akademiska Hus has signed an agreement with Folkuniversitetet, whose broad activities consist of an extensive range of courses but also a number of longer artistic educations at the Ballet Academy, the Stockholm School of Architecture, the Writing Academy, the Art School, the Animation Academy and education in furniture carpentry and guitar making.
"Folkuniversitetet sees a great opportunity to create a new gathering point for art and culture education in Stockholm. The expansion of the business means that we will be able to offer course activities at an additional location in Stockholm. It will be a fantastic place for courses in dance, art, architecture and music, but also for research lectures and other cultural events. The location close to nature between three large universities is perfect for us, who rest on a scientific foundation in everything we do, Olof Olsson, Vice-Chancellor at Folkuniversitetet.
Cultural-historical environment in an attractive location
In connection with Stockholm University moving parts of its operations to the new campus area Albano, the opportunity opens up for Akademiska Hus to welcome new tenants to Kräftriket. It offers access to a cultural-historical environment in an attractive location next to Brunnsviken and Nationalstadsparken, with proximity to both the city, nature and Stockholm's knowledge hub in the form of Stockholm University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology and Karolinska Institutet. To make Kräftriket alive at all hours of the day, Akademiska Hus is also conducting detailed planning work to create about 300 new student housing.
"A lot of exciting things are happening in Kräftriket, where we want to preserve the area's existing qualities while carefully developing the site as a research and educational environment. Folkuniversitetet's long-term establishment contributes to that development and we warmly welcome them to Kräftriket," says Anna Alsborger, Property Director at Akademiska Hus.
