General information
Cantilevered on the cliff above Guldhedsgatan, it balances the library building, which together with the footbridges and lift tower forms the unifying link between Sahlgrenska University Hospital in the south and the theoretical institutions in the north. The building was given this challenging location because the space in front of the library's entrance was limited.
Folke Ström, the first librarian, wrote in Biblioteksbladet after the opening: "planning and layout have been consistently determined from functional points of view. The fact that such an endeavor was carried out is not least due to the architect's attitude and great skill. The good cooperation between librarian and architect, which is usually emphasized as the main prerequisite for a successful end result, has been fully present..."
The building is located in an area that is included in Gothenburg Municipality's conservation program.
