The demand for student housing in Stockholm is high, and the availability of accommodation is crucial for the future attractiveness of the city and its educational institutions. With these guiding principles, Akademiska Hus created what is now known as KI Residence in 2021, with approximately 400 new residences for students and researchers at Karolinska Institutet (KI). These houses are leased by KI Housing, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Karolinska Institutet Holding AB, with the mission to provide accommodation for international guest researchers and exchange students on behalf of KI. More housing also contributes to a more vibrant campus, with activity around the clock, which is something both Akademiska Hus and KI aim for.
The residences are located in the heart of Campus Solna, with direct proximity to both academia and the city's pulse. The design of the residences has been carried out in close collaboration with KI. The student houses consist of three A-shaped buildings, an architectural choice made to effectively manage the surrounding noise levels and contribute to a pleasant area.
