Kåkenhus in Norrköping, with its rich history as a textile factory and later a textile corporation, became a university building for Linköping University under Akademiska Hus in the 1990s. The most recent renovation in 2014 preserved the building's cultural and historical values, maintaining its roots in the industrial landscape's unique atmosphere, while adapting it to meet future demands for sustainability and modern use.
The new Kåkenhus has brought together all student services, including Student Health, a restaurant, study spaces, and a library, creating a natural flow throughout the building. With new entrances that connect the campus areas on both sides of the Motala Ström river, the building sets the tone for how research and industry meet in an innovative knowledge environment.
