Akademiska Hus inaugurated the new Kungliga Musikhögskolan (KMH) in Stockholm in 2016. The modern facility integrates a historic stable complex, with the stable converted into a library and the riding house transformed into an organ hall. The buildings' glass facade highlights the original brick architecture, making KMH more visible and accessible.
KMH covers 16,000 sqm and is designed to promote interaction and community among students, teachers, and the public. A common area connects public spaces and the school's central functions. The rooms are flexible in both spatial and acoustic design, with a focus on sustainability. The concert halls can be adapted for various types of events, and the premises have controlled humidity to meet the needs of both singers and instruments.
The main building houses concert halls, practice rooms, computer rooms, studios with control rooms, and teaching rooms. KMH offers several free concerts a week for the public, contributing to a vibrant and open campus environment.
