Studenthus Valla at Linköping University, inaugurated in 2019, won the Solar Energy Award and was nominated for "Building of the Year" in 2020. It generates over 150,000 kWh of environmentally friendly electricity annually and is certified as Miljöbyggnad Gold. With 1000 study places and all student services, including reception, student health, admission service, group rooms, restaurant, café and library, it serves as the university's central hub.
At Linköping University, Studenthus Valla was inaugurated in autumn 2019. The following year, it was nominated for Building of the Year 2020 and won the Solar Energy Prize for its unique rooftop solar installation, which generates just over 150,000 kWh of eco-friendly electricity annually.
The building, with its 1,000 study places and innovative learning environments, serves as the central hub of the campus, promoting collaboration between academia and the community. With its seven floors, Studenthus Valla consolidates all student services, including reception, student health, admissions service, group rooms, a restaurant, a café, and a modern library. For the first time, large parts of the university administration and faculty offices are housed in the same location, having previously been spread across Campus Valla and Mjärdevi.
There is substantial effort from all involved parties behind the certification. Miljöbyggnad Gold is the highest certification and means that the indoor environment needs to be very good. This is ensured through measurements or by asking those who live or work in the building about their opinions on the indoor environment.
Additionally, Studenthus Valla has solar panels on the roof that generate just over 150,000 kWh of environmentally friendly electricity each year and has smart energy solutions and an indoor environment and material choices optimized for sustainability.
