Studenthuset at Frescati is an new energy-efficient gathering point for students at Stockholm University, supplied by a ground layer for heating and cooling. Designed as a floating box, the building brings together student activities, study spaces and the Student Union on one floor.
Studenthuset at Frescati is described as the public face of the campus, aiming to offer a natural gathering point for students at Stockholm University. Additionally, the building is one of the most energy-efficient in the Akademiska Hus property portfolio, with its geothermal system meeting the entire building’s heating and cooling needs.
The four-story building, designed as a floating box, becomes a new natural gathering place for students where all student-related and social activities are concentrated on one floor. The building also houses study spaces and the Student Union, while the top two floors are offices for the student department. The building thus offers an inspiring and creative environment where students at the university can find all the information they need about their studies, student life, and careers after university.
To be certified with level silver, a building must meet requirements for low energy use, a good indoor environment concerning sound, air quality, thermal climate, and daylight. Additionally, the building must be constructed with careful knowledge of the materials and building products used.
This certification is a mark of important qualities in a building regarding energy, indoor environment, and materials, and it is used for new and existing buildings of any size. The certification is managed by the non-profit organization Sweden Green Building Council (SGBC).
