Umeå

Universum

General information

Universum was inaugurated in 1969 as a combination of union hall, dining room and dance palace and was for a long time one of Umeå's most frequently visited dance venues. In 2004, however, a major renovation was made to the building, where the premises were adapted and upgraded according to the students' wishes. Instead, more space was created for shop premises, study places and coffee shops.

From the outside, the glazed facades and a new main entrance are the most obvious changes, but a big job has also been done inside. When the redevelopment was done, the needs of the students were at the center, which led to the creation of more study places that are available 24 hours a day - something that supports the idea of a living campus that is active 24 hours a day.
