The solar cells on campus are becoming more and more

Akademiska Hus and Uppsala University work together to increase the amount of renewable energy in our houses. In 2019, a decision was therefore made to install a major solar cell investment on the university's roof in Uppsala. In total, we planned to install solar cells with a total power of about 700 kWp. The facilities were then estimated to be able to produce approximately 600,000 kWh / year annually, which roughly corresponds to the annual consumption in 300 student apartments.

At the end of June, Uppsala University Rector Anders Hagfeldt visited the newly installed solar cells at Ekonomikum together with Akademiska Hus CEO Kerstin Lindberg Göransson. You can see a short film from the visit on Uppsala University's Facebook page.

As solar cells become more popular in Sweden and the world, the price of these facilities decreases. The solar cells have also become increasingly efficient, which means that today it is a great environmental benefit to install solar cells and according to our calculations we believe that we will be able to produce approximately 1,300,000 kWh / year instead of the 600,000 kWh / year that was previously thought.

We are currently installing a larger photovoltaic system at EBC and we are also expanding the facility in the English Park.
