Akademiska Hus, the Swedish Arts Council and Uppsala University have invited the artist Amanda Selinder to create a unique temporary art project in the Blåsenhus area. The project is an extension of the ecological sustainability projects carried out on the campus area.
In the summer of 2021, Amanda Selinder will perform a temporary artistic design in the Blåsenhus area. Amanda will examine the fungi, algae, bacteria and plants she finds in the park and pond, and explore how she can use them to dye textiles. The artist will partly use traditional plant staining methods such as cooking and sun staining, but in the project she will also extract pigments from bacteria and fungi in a laboratory environment in the adjacent Evolutionary Biology Center together with researchers at Uppsala University. The finished design will consist of six textile sculptures and will be completed in September.
You will be able to follow Amanda's work on site in the Blåsenhus area (the green area between Campus 1477 and the large stormwater pond) signs and a website will also be home to the work process.
Via the campus app, we will continuously inform about the project.
