This summer, Akademiska Hus in Uppsala has started an attempt to cut the grass on campus with completely renewable electricity - and completely silently.
The experiment in Ultuna takes place on approx. 100,000 square meters of campus lawns, which corresponds to approx. 50% of the total grass area. The grass is cut using 19 robotic lawnmowers powered by renewable electricity. Thanks to the electric drive, mowing is also completely silent, unlike when it is done with a petrol-powered vehicle.
If the experiment turns out well, the idea is that mowing will be expanded in 2024, so that all grass areas and other maintenance of the grass areas will be done with electricity and that hand-held lawn mowers that are powered by gasoline will be phased out completely.
