Renovation for Folkuniversitetet

Akademiska Hus is carrying out a careful renovation in Kräftriket to create modern and flexible premises for Folkuniversitetet, tailored for courses and workshops, while preserving the building's historical value. This initiative provides Folkuniversitetet with functional spaces that meet today's needs, while ensuring the building's cultural heritage and future role within an expanding campus area.

About the renovation

At Kräftriket, Akademiska Hus is transforming an existing building into a modern and inspiring environment for Folkuniversitetet. Through careful and sustainable work, flexible spaces for courses, lectures, and workshops are created, blending contemporary needs with the building's historical heritage.

These buildings will soon house the Ballet Academy, the School of Architecture, the Recording Academy, the Art School, and the Animation Academy. The project therefore includes the creation of dance studios as well as ateliers, carpentry, and sculpture workshops with space for kilns. The project is characterized by a focus on sensitivity and adaptation, respecting the buildings' cultural and historical values.

About the project

  • Construction start: 2024
  • Activity: Education
  • Campus: Kräftriket
  • Completion: 2025
  • Local area: 3 500 som
  • Location: Stockholm

Focus on sustainability

As part of Akademiska Hus' commitment to a zero climate impact target, an inventory of the existing building was conducted to maximize material reuse within the project.

This transformation thus embodies sustainable resource use, enabling flexible spaces for courses, lectures, and workshops, while preserving the building's historical character. This renovation allows Folkuniversitetet to gain modern and functional premises, all while safeguarding the building’s heritage and ensuring its future relevance within an expanding campus area.
