Development of Gibraltarvallen at Campus Johanneberg

Together with Chalmers, Akademiska Hus wants to continue to develop Campus Johanneberg into a more vibrant and integrated part of the city. A new detailed plan for the area at Gibraltarvallen enables the construction of new housing, services and academic activities together with a new square and a new park. There are good opportunities here to continue to create a welcoming, accessible and vibrant district and an even more attractive campus area.

About Gibraltarvallen at Campus Johanneberg

The detailed plan, which has been approved by the Building Committee and is now awaiting a decision by the municipal council, allows for new buildings at Gibraltarvallen and a development of surrounding streets and places. The plan allows for flexible use of the building rights. Akademiska Hus is the main landowner and intends to expand a block for student housing purposes. In addition, the City of Gothenburg has through a land allocation competition given the opportunity for HSB and Riksbyggen to develop the southernmost block with between 120 and 160 rental and tenant-owned apartments. When the other blocks and building rights will be used and what direction these will have is currently unclear.

Project in Early Stages

  • The project is in its early stages and requires approval from the Akademiska Hus board as well as necessary government permits to be realized.

Student housing block Mira first out

Akademiska Hus is planning to build the student housing block, which goes by the name Mira. It comprises around 320 sustainable homes with a mix of individual and shared spaces. Mira is planned to be built on the current parking lot, west of Gibraltargatan.

Overall, the zoning plan provides Akademiska Hus with the opportunity for a sustainable, long-term and efficient use of the company's land and premises, as well as the opportunity to continue developing Campus Johanneberg into an attractive and exciting new district.

A development agreement has been signed between the City of Gothenburg and Akademiska Hus to implement the detailed plan within 15 years of adoption.

The detailed development plan gives Akademiska Hus the opportunity to:

- Develop 116,000 sqm of which 81,000 sqm is possible for housing

- Develop urban spaces and parks within Campus Johanneberg
