Lyra and Vega - student and researcher housing in Linköping

Akademiska Hus plans to build housing for 600–800 students and researchers in the southern part of Campus Valla, Linköping. The buildings, ranging from 5-7 storeys and including a 10-storey tower at Nobeltorget, aim to increase campus vitality and safety. The development will proceed in phases, with areas adapted to Vallastaden's structure and Kunskapslänken. Outdoor environments are designed to promote social integration and biodiversity.

About Lyra and Vega

To meet the need for student housing in Linköping, Akademiska Hus plans to build accommodation for 600–800 students and researchers in the southern part of Campus Valla.

On-campus housing has several advantages. It not only increases activity and liveliness, contributing to a safer environment, but also improves the conditions for commercial services such as restaurants, cafés, and shops, which benefit from the increased population. Having housing close to academic facilities also makes everyday life more convenient for students, with short distances between living, study, and recreational areas.

Phased Expansion with Urban Cohesion

The expansion will occur in phases, with two sub-areas currently meeting the need for student and researcher housing. Each of the three sub-areas will have distinct characteristics based on their specific site conditions.

One area is located south of Smedstadsbäcken, with the design of buildings and blocks adapted to the more fragmented block structure of Vallastaden. The buildings in the other two areas will be situated along Kunskapslänken, contributing to a more urban streetscape with a cohesive building facade and the potential for ground-floor commercial spaces.

Great care is taken in the design of the outdoor environments.

The outdoor environment around the housing will offer meeting places for all occasions. These public spaces will contribute to social integration and spontaneous interactions, especially important in new residential areas. They will promote encounters between residents, visitors, and those working in the area. Well-planned courtyards will enhance social sustainability and community. In addition to providing spatial and sensory experiences, the greenery will also promote biodiversity.
