New student housing in Kräftriket

The development of Kräftriket aims to enhance its role as a vibrant and dynamic campus environment. Akademiska Hus plans to expand the area near Brunnsviken with approximately 100 new residences, accommodating around 250 residents.

About the project

Kräftriket is undergoing development to strengthen its role as a vibrant and attractive campus environment. Akademiska Hus plans to add approximately 100 new residences near Brunnsviken, providing housing for around 250 students and researchers. At the same time, existing buildings will be modernized to accommodate new activities in spaces vacated following Stockholm University's relocation to the nearby Albano campus.

As part of the Royal National City Park, Kräftriket has long been an important gathering place for academics. The planned housing will further enliven the area, fostering both studies and social interaction. Additionally, the project reconnects with the site's historical roots from the time when Veterinary College employees lived in the area.

Early stage

  • The project is in an early stage and requires approval from the Akademiska Hus board as well as necessary regulatory decisions to be realized.

The detailed development plan includes:

The new detailed development plan enables the construction of 102 student and researcher residences while adapting existing buildings for future tenants. The plan aims to combine modern campus development with the preservation of cultural and historical values. Additionally, green spaces will be maintained, and biodiversity will be enhanced to create a sustainable and welcoming environment.

Careful renovation

The development of student housing includes a careful renovation process, preserving the historical character of the existing buildings while adapting them to modern needs. Through meticulous restoration efforts, architectural details and cultural values are safeguarded, while the residences are upgraded to meet contemporary standards of sustainability and functionality. This work helps strengthen the area's identity and create an attractive living environment for future students and researchers.
