Campus development

That our campus areas develop and provide higher education institutions with the right conditions over time is crucial for us as a company. The key to success is to find close and good forms of collaboration with our customers where we can translate visions into concrete development and action plans.

The energy system of the future are being tested on campus

  • City:

    Gothenburg

  • Campus:

    Chalmers at Johanneberg

  • Sustainability area:

    Energy

Flexigrid

In the EU project FlexiGrid, we have created a control system that adapts the power used on the campus area to the load on Gothenburg's energy system.

How it works

Together with researchers and experts from Chalmers University of Technology and other European universities, we are testing how the energy system on campus can be adapted and regulated based on the power demand in Gothenburg's electricity grid. and a power plant where its own heat and electricity are produced. Here, a control system for all these units has been created, in order to be able to regulate and adapt their use according to power needs, electricity consumption and market data.

Control systems for greater leverage on existing technology

All the technology is already in place on campus - we have only adapted it and created the control system. This shows that the start-up distance for this type of flexibility control is quite short and there is great potential to be applied in other places.

A marketplace for energy

The control system will regulate the power loads within the campus area in relation to Gothenburg's energy system. This includes creating a local market platform to demonstrate the power and energy saving benefits, and the economic benefits that the regulation of the plants provides. The project will also show how a flexibility market can work in practice.

This is how we meet the future

By regulating the use of technology in the campus area, the project hopes to develop concrete solutions for how energy systems can be better utilised in the future. With a continued electrification of society and a larger share of wind and solar power both for Sweden and large parts of Europe, we will need to regulate the power loads and streamline the energy systems in this way.
