Akademiska Hus triple nominated in Building of the Year 2024

Building of the Year is the community building sector's most prestigious award, awarded every year by the magazine Byggindustrien. This year, Akademiska Hus has been nominated not for one, not two, but for three fantastic construction projects in two different categories.

The award goes to an individual construction project completed in 2023 and the projects can compete in six different categories. This year, Akademiska Hus has contributed with competitors in the category of community service properties and in the renovation category. The Building of the Year awards good examples of the best the construction sector performs. Good collaboration and goal fulfilment in terms of quality, time and economy, technology and innovation, sustainability and the work environment are important criteria in the assessment.

In the category Community service properties:

Natrium

Natrium is a completely new building, which makes it possible for the University of Gothenburg to gather large parts of its activities within the Faculty of Science in one and the same place on Medicinareberget in the middle of Gothenburg. The project includes two seven-storey buildings and an intermediate part and contains advanced lab environments in combination with teaching premises and offices.

Forum Medicum

Forum Medicum was built together with Lund University and enables a cohesive medical and health science knowledge centre where the activities of today's HSC (Health Science Center) and BMC (Biomedical Centre) are integrated. The building contains large and modern premises for both students and researchers. The project also includes public spaces on the ground floor and five floors for teaching and offices, as well as a smaller, retracted penthouse. With a café or restaurant and entrances in different directions, a welcoming environment has been created at our campus in Lund.

In the Renovation category:

The Chemistry House

The Chemistry House was completed in 1921 and has been carefully renovated and transformed into a modern knowledge environment for innovation, sustainability and collaboration. The redevelopment has created a more creative and flexible environment for students, researchers and companies. When the building was redesigned, a completely new lab was also created – 2MILab (the Molecules and Materials at Interfaces Laboratory) – where different research groups will be able to meet in a more flexible way.

Now we keep our fingers crossed for the gala on March 19, 2024 where the winners will be announced!
