Akademiska Hus and Sahlgrenska Science Park invest in Health Innovation Labs in Gothenburg

Akademiska Hus and Sahlgrenska Science Park are opening a new environment for life science companies at Medicinareberget in Gothenburg. The investment includes 2,400 square meters of lab, office space and common areas, where collaboration is in focus with access to both lab manager and shared equipment.

When the Natrium building is now ready as home to the Faculty of Science at the University of Gothenburg, a unique vacancy will be created at Medicinaregatan 9C. The premises, which previously housed the departments of biochemistry, biophysics, genetics and molecular biology, are now ready to be rented out to life science companies in need of both labs and offices. The concept of Health Innovation Labs offers an engaging, collaborative environment with research equipment, business support and acceleration programs through Sahlgrenska Science Park's CO-AX accelerator. There is primarily room for smaller companies here, and by renting space, the companies get the opportunity to share both knowledge and equipment and help each other.

"The future looks really exciting. Through this investment, we open up the area to the business community in a completely different way than before. A creative environment for the benefit of both the university and the business community," says Pontus Isaksson, Head of Real Estate at Akademiska Hus.

Strategic location

With its location in the middle of Medicinareberget, the premises are close to both Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the University of Gothenburg, as well as scenic areas, services and good communications. It will be a concept where Sahlgrenska Science Park hosts the companies and runs meeting-creating and network-building activities, as well as offering a wide range of services.

"One of the advantages of our collaboration with Akademiska Hus is that we can think big and develop our concept with Health Innovation Labs. supported by strong academic and medical connections," says Karl Maack, Site Development Director at Sahlgrenska Science Park.

From April, the fourth floor will be ready for rent. The floor has about twelve office spaces and twelve lab benches available for rent – several of them with sweeping views of Gothenburg. In the coming months, the other premises on floors 2 and 3 will also be ready. In total, Akademiska Hus and Sahlgrenska Science Park expect to be able to offer 50 lab spaces with offices and an additional 50 offices for research and science that improves people's lives and health.
