As part of the company's financial sustainability work, Akademiska Hus has issued its third green bond with a maturity of five years. The bond issue has been carried out under the company's long-established EMTN program and is listed on the London Stock Exchange.
The proceeds from the issue will be used in accordance with Akademiska Hus' framework for green bonds. The framework was updated in June 2023 and was then broadened to include parts of the EU Taxonomy's technical criteria. The design of the framework is based on the ICMA Green Bond Principles 2021 and has been reviewed by S&P/Cicero Shades of Green who have given it a rating of Medium Green. The issue is the first under the updated framework. The specific projects to which the money will be allocated and how the conditions of the green framework are complied with, will be published in the investor report that is published each year on Akademiska Hus' website.
An example of projects that may be funded under the updated green framework is Natrium in Gothenburg. The building brings together large parts of the Faculty of Science at the University of Gothenburg and contains advanced lab environments, teaching facilities, offices and study spaces. Natrium is certified in the highest class for the Swedish Green Building Council - level gold. To achieve this level, high demands are placed on, among other things, sustainable material choices and energy efficiency. Demand-controlled ventilation and lighting are installed as well as 750 square meters of solar cells on the roof. We have also worked with reuse within the project, including products from the reconstruction of the School of Business, Economics and Law, such as marble, window sills, exterior lime sandstone and luminaires.
