Summer letter from Akademiska Hus

Now there are not many days left before most of us get a much-needed day off and the opportunity to recharge our batteries. It has been an intense academic year where a lot has happened on our campus in Lund and Malmö.We have conducted this year's NKI survey where the result for Lund/Malmö ended up at 60, a clear rise from last year's measurement of 51. If we look at Lund Center and Malmö, we increase the result to 61 from 59 in the last measurement. Universitetsplatån increased to 60 from 56 and LTH to 59 from 41. A result we are very happy about, but the work continues to make us even better. More about the results will come at the autumn house meetings.Lund Center:We have renovated the G:a Lungkliniken, which is now ready for occupancy at the beginning of June. During the autumn, we began the replacement of outdoor fixtures in Kv Paradis and in the UB park, which has now been completed. Together with our contractor Peab and our land manager Catharina, we have looked over the vegetation and taken measures to above all increase safety, more will be done during the autumn. The university library is being carefully renovated to create a new entrance that meets the beautiful building in a better way and more study places, expected to be completed by the turn of the year 24/25.Lund Universitetsplatån:During the spring, we adapted a room for LU Byggnad at KC 3. It is the first room in Anshelmhusen that has been adapted to function as a large-room office, and it will be exciting to see which business moves into the room.We unfortunately had a fire on BMC's roof which fortunately did not cause any major damage to the house or impact on the business. The emergency services did a good job so that the water damage was minimized. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated. It is likely that a scaffold will need to be placed over parts of the house during the restoration.Lund LTH:At LTH, there are two major development projects of the outdoor environment in the starting pits, a collaboration project with VA SYD and REWAISE where we will test the future stormwater delay in the ponds lake Sjön and pond Pölen as well as strengthen the attractiveness around an important gathering place on campus. The project is planned to be ready before the traditional regatta and is illustrated in the picture on the next page. The second development project is to strengthen the outdoor environment of the Northern Campus at LTH, where interventions during the autumn/winter will take place in front of the Police Hall with new bicycle parking, the Amphitheater, the AK park and all the way up to the IKDC entrance. Akademiska Hus is proud and happy that the design was developed in collaboration with representatives from LU Byggnad, LTH and TLTH.Many thanks for a good cooperation during the spring and we hope that you all have a nice summer and time off. We ourselves look forward to gardening, rounds of golf with friends, underwater rugby cup in Barcelona, barbecue evenings and many salty baths in the Sound, which gives us lots of energy.Sunny greetingsChristoffer, Elin, Lars-Bertil and colleagues

New material choices when adapting the Chemistry Center

We are adapting premises at the Kemicentrum, Building 3 to the LU Building. As part of our environmental work with sustainable material choices, we are testing three new building materials with a low carbon dioxide impact and with recycled materials Instead of OSB boards in the walls, boards of 100% ground pressed paper packaging are used. It gives 80-90% lower C02 emissions compared to regular OSB. As a wall rule, a cardboard rule made of recycled paper is used, which gives a low CO2 emission. A material of hemp fiber insulation is used as sound insulation in the wall, which has a negative CO2 result. The combination of these materials in walls has better soundproofing properties than traditional partition walls. The system is applied in dry interior walls without fire class that are not load-bearing and have Type Approval from RISE. The premises will be completed in the spring. This text has been automatically translated, and some inaccuracies may be present.

The art work Vertical composition back on campus in Lund

The eight-meter-high sculpture Vertical Composition has seen a lot since it was inaugurated in 1958. After being hit, vandalized and tested by the forces of the weather, the sculpture is now re-inaugurated outside the Forum Medicum in Lund. When the Department of Physiology at Lund University moved into its new premises on Sölvegatan in Lund in the mid-1950s, Arne Jones' sculpture Vertical composition was bought in as a public decoration. The sculpture came to the campus after a close collaboration between the department building's architect Klas Anshelm and the professor of physiology Georg Kahlson. In 1980, the sculpture was damaged for the first time in a storm. When the artist Jones died a few years earlier, the artist Thure Thörn was asked to fix the sculpture, which was made of copper. The work then stood majestically on the campus for many years, but after it was subjected to vandalism and another severe storm, Akademiska Hus had to take the sculpture down for safety reasons in 2011. Recreated in new material after good cooperation The sculpture was then stored in Akademiska Hus for many years and was considered too damaged to be put up again. But after a close collaboration between Lund University, the State Council for the Arts and Akademiska Hus, a recreated version of the work now stands outside the newly built Forum Medicum – the extension of the Biomedical Center (BMC) which has been ready since May 2023. This time it is the artists Viggo Wichmann and Marc Rizell who has created a new version of the work in stainless steel.

Cleaning of abandoned bicycles during the intervening days

During the intervening days, Akademiska Hus will begin a bicycle cleanup on campus. The cycle cleaning is carried out as follows: The bikes on campus will have a sticker attached to them during week 52. Those who remain on campus during week 4 will be whisked away. The removed bicycles are stored at Akademiska Hus for three months and then recycled. If you have questions, you can contact usethebike@akademiskahus.se Through this cleanup, we hope that everyone can more easily find parking for their bikes this spring.

Akademiska Hus wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

We at Akademiska Hus would like to wish everyone on campus a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. During the past year, we have invested in several different projects with the aim of reducing the proportion of purchased energy. Through, among other things, solar cells, replacement of lighting and ventilation, we have reduced the proportion of purchased energy in our properties in Lund and Malmö during the year by 3,000,000 kWh, corresponding to the annual consumption of approximately 200 villas. In 2023, together with our customers, we will continue the work. To report urgent errors during the Christmas break, call our switchboard, just as usual, on the number: 010-557 24 00. You report other errors via akademiskahus.se or the Mitt campus app.

Removal of dead poplars at Ekologihuset

Some dead poplars needed to be cut down at the Ecology House. There was a risk that they would fall over the catenary to the light rail and smaller branches risked falling onto footpaths and cycle paths. The wood after the trees has been saved on the site to benefit insects and contribute to the biological diversity of the area. Some taller stumps have also been saved for the same purpose. The collaboration was done together with Mikael Sörensson, PhD student, Functional Zoology.

On Monday 7 March at 15.00 "Hesa Fredrik" will be tested

Four times a year, on the first non-holiday Monday in March, June, September and December at 15.00, it is checked that the signal Important message via the outdoor warning system "Hesa Fredrik" works. On Monday, March 7, the test will be carried out as planned at 15.00. Given the world situation, MSB wants to emphasize that this is a test. The signal sounds continuously for seven seconds, then follows fourteen seconds of silence. The signal test lasts for at least two minutes. If you hear the signal at a different time than when it is being tested, or receive a VMA (Important Message to the Public) on your mobile phone: Go indoors and close all doors, windows and if possible ventilation. Listen to Swedish Radio P4 to hear what's happening. For more information go to the website Krisinformation.se or call 113 13
